Scope and Responsibility
This regulation applies to all student and employee use of district-provided AI technology resources, both on and off campus. The Superintendent designates the Chief of Student Services as the district AI Coordinator. Users are responsible for any harm caused by their AI use.
Prohibited AI Uses
District students and employees are strictly prohibited from the following:
- Using AI in a way that violates district policy or law.
- Inputting confidential or sensitive data (e.g., student PII, medical data) into an AI system unless explicitly approved.
- Using AI to violate assignment instructions.
- Representing AI-generated content as original work without proper acknowledgment.
- Using AI tools not on the "District Approved AI Services" list without prior approval.
- Creating or spreading false information, or generating obscene or harmful material.
- Using AI to harass, defame, or harm others.
- Relying on AI for decision-making that impacts legally protected rights.
Acceptable AI Use
Students and employees may use AI tools under the following conditions:
- Only district-approved AI tools from the official list may be used.
- AI use must align with district policies and instructional objectives, enhancing educational outcomes or professional productivity.
- Use must not compromise confidentiality, data security, or policy compliance.
- Users must review and validate all AI-generated content for accuracy before use.
Requesting New AI Tools
Employees and students who wish to use an unapproved AI tool must submit a request to the AI Coordinator. The request must:
- Clearly identify the AI product and its intended use.
- Articulate the educational or productive purpose.
- Provide the tool's data privacy policy and terms of use.
- Demonstrate how the use aligns with district policies and ensures safety.
Reporting and Training
Concerns about the safety or effectiveness of AI tools, or suspected misuse, must be reported to the AI Coordinator. The AI Coordinator is also responsible for providing training to students and employees on the safe and appropriate use of AI.
